About This Project

  • This project reduces carbon dioxide by increasing the storage of CO2 in the forest through reduced logging activity and increased natural forest growth.
  • The project was inspired when the president of the Elliotsville Foundation was hiking the Appalachian Trail and saw how logging activity occurred within 100 feet of the trail. Once protections were in place, the landscape began to recover. 13,300 forested acres, once heavily logged, are now protected.
  • Atlantic salmon and Canada Lynx have returned. A chain of lakes and ponds provides excellent habitat for these recovering species and for the megafauna like bears that follow when they are present.

Sustainability Development Goals

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also known as the Global Goals, are a set of 17 interconnected goals established by the United Nations in 2015 as a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure prosperity for all by 2030. The SDGs build upon the earlier Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) but are broader in scope, encompassing a wide range of economic, social, and environmental issues. They provide a comprehensive framework for addressing global challenges and achieving a more sustainable and equitable world. This project has the following sustainability development goals that are displayed.
