About This Project
- This project is located on approximately 21,567 hectares in Goulais River, Ontario, Canada, northeast of Sault Ste. Marie. It is located adjacent to several provincial parks, conservation areas, Nature Conservancy lands, and the Crown lands of northern Ontario.
- The property is owned by Astina Forest AG. Industrial private lands in this region commonly conduct aggressive industrial timber harvest. Sault Ste. Marie has a long history as a forestry and timber industry hub in Ontario, harvesting wood products for pulp, lumber, and other industrial projects.
- This CORSIA Compliant project ensures that the forestland is managed to sustainably generate timber products while providing recreational, ecological, and environmental benefits, including the maintenance of large blocks of forest and wildlife habitat. Specifically, the project defers harvesting, improves timber stands, and protects riparian areas, wetlands, and natural communities.
- This commitment to maintain and enhance forest carbon stocks above industrial timber harvest levels provides significant climate benefits through carbon sequestration.
Sustainability Development Goals
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also known as the Global Goals, are a set of 17 interconnected goals established by the United Nations in 2015 as a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure prosperity for all by 2030. The SDGs build upon the earlier Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) but are broader in scope, encompassing a wide range of economic, social, and environmental issues. They provide a comprehensive framework for addressing global challenges and achieving a more sustainable and equitable world. This project has the following sustainability development goals that are displayed.
