About This Project
- The Pivot Forestry Project in Quebec, Canada, is the first initiative of its kind in the country, empowering small forest owners to restore and protect their forests through carbon credit sales. Spanning 15,000 hectares of private land, the project focuses on preserving existing forests and fostering new growth through:
-
- Afforestation, Reforestation, and Revegetation
- Improved Forest Management – Conversion from Logged to Protected Forests
- Improved Forest Management – Extended Forest Rotation Age
- The project expects to remove 12,699,365 tCO2e over the 80 years crediting period. Credits are removals and reductions.
- The grouped project structure allows conservation and restoration actions over numerous small parcels of land to be grouped together into a single project, thus giving access to a carbon project that would not have been viable otherwise for small landowners.
- In addition to removing and reducing carbon emissions, the projects also have positive impacts on biodiversity conservation by adopting improved forest practices such as creating old-growth habitats for many wildlife species.
Sustainability Development Goals
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also known as the Global Goals, are a set of 17 interconnected goals established by the United Nations in 2015 as a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure prosperity for all by 2030. The SDGs build upon the earlier Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) but are broader in scope, encompassing a wide range of economic, social, and environmental issues. They provide a comprehensive framework for addressing global challenges and achieving a more sustainable and equitable world. This project has the following sustainability development goals that are displayed.
