About This Project

  • The Russas Project is a REDD+ initiative dedicated to protecting 41,976 hectares of tropical rainforest in Acre, Brazil. Validated under the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) and the Climate, Community & Biodiversity Standard (CCBS) Gold Level, the project upholds strict criteria for environmental integrity and community impact. Its primary goal is to curb deforestation driven by subsistence farming, cattle ranching, and infrastructure expansion, safeguarding more than 102,000 acres of richly biodiverse Amazon rainforest.

  • By preventing the conversion of forest to pasture, the Russas Project generates approximately 120,147 carbon credits each year. These credits represent verified emissions reductions and can be purchased by organizations and individuals seeking to offset their carbon footprints. Through this mechanism, the project plays a vital role in global climate mitigation while ensuring the long-term preservation of critical forest ecosystems that store vast amounts of carbon.

  • The project delivers wide-reaching environmental and social benefits. Ecologically, it protects habitat for an estimated one to two million animal species and 30,000 plant species, including threatened wildlife such as howler monkeys, freshwater dolphins, and scarlet macaws. Socially, the initiative invests directly in local well-being through job creation, agricultural training, new housing, education programs, a community health clinic, and support for women’s entrepreneurship. These efforts strengthen community resilience and create sustainable economic alternatives to deforestation.

  • Honoring the legacy of environmental activist Chico Mendes, the Russas Project donates a portion of its proceeds to the Chico Mendes Memorial Foundation to support environmental and educational programs. Individuals and organizations can contribute to the project’s impact by purchasing carbon credits through Forevergreen.earth. Overall, the Russas Project demonstrates how REDD+ initiatives can successfully protect biodiversity, reduce emissions, and uplift local communities while advancing global climate goals.

Sustainability Development Goals

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also known as the Global Goals, are a set of 17 interconnected goals established by the United Nations in 2015 as a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure prosperity for all by 2030. The SDGs build upon the earlier Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) but are broader in scope, encompassing a wide range of economic, social, and environmental issues. They provide a comprehensive framework for addressing global challenges and achieving a more sustainable and equitable world. This project has the following sustainability development goals that are displayed.
