About This Project
- Covers 67,781 hectares of forest in Ejido Caoba, Quintana Roo, Mexico, restoring degraded lands and improving forest health through sustainable forestry practices including reforestation, fire prevention, and responsible timber harvesting. The project is also Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified.
- Managed by The Earth Lab, a Mexican project developer with extensive local expertise and on-the-ground operational experience, the project combines Improved Forest Management (IFM), afforestation, reforestation, ecosystem conservation, preservation of Mayan culture, and climate finance strategies aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
- Supports biodiversity conservation and sustainable economic opportunities for 323 Ejido families who own the project. Wildlife in the project area includes jaguars, pumas, ocelots, spider monkeys, white-tailed deer, wild boar, and several bat species.
- Generates carbon removal credits based solely on incremental forest growth, without relying on avoided deforestation claims. The project includes a 100-year forest protection commitment, a reversal buffer pool, and permanent conservation zoning to ensure long-term carbon storage integrity.
- This project is ICVCM CCP-Approved and CORSIA-compliant, meeting internationally recognized standards for high-integrity carbon credits.
Sustainability Development Goals
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also known as the Global Goals, are a set of 17 interconnected goals established by the United Nations in 2015 as a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure prosperity for all by 2030. The SDGs build upon the earlier Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) but are broader in scope, encompassing a wide range of economic, social, and environmental issues. They provide a comprehensive framework for addressing global challenges and achieving a more sustainable and equitable world. This project has the following sustainability development goals that are displayed.
