About This Project
- The Hudson Farm project in northern New Jersey reduces carbon dioxide by increasing the storage of CO2 in the forest. In the heart of a highly developed region with increasing threats of fragmentation and parcellation, Hudson Farm protects 3,600 acres for enjoyment by future generations and reduces an estimated 4,000 metric tons of CO2e annually.
- The trees and plants around rivers serve as natural protection for freshwater systems. Hudson Farms’ trees prevent soil erosion and regulate the water table to assure high-quality water supply for all who use it. Trees and roots serve as natural filters and are essential to maintaining a water supply.
- Hudson Farm is one of the largest working forests in the state. Hudson Farm’s rich history spans over a century, and the property contains the iconic estate where the idea for the Appalachian Trail was conceived.
- Today, Hudson Farm pioneers wildlife conservation initiatives throughout the region and serves as a local community steward. Hudson Farm Foundation gives to local Sussex County charities including conservation and species protection projects, various medial causes, veterans, food banks, fire departments, and responsible hunting safety education and outreach. Hudson Farms partners with the National Audubon Society and the Natural Resources Conservation Service.
Sustainability Development Goals
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also known as the Global Goals, are a set of 17 interconnected goals established by the United Nations in 2015 as a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure prosperity for all by 2030. The SDGs build upon the earlier Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) but are broader in scope, encompassing a wide range of economic, social, and environmental issues. They provide a comprehensive framework for addressing global challenges and achieving a more sustainable and equitable world. This project has the following sustainability development goals that are displayed.
