Svilosa Biomass Project

Project TypeBiomass

What They DoThis project operates within the Svilocell Pulp mill in Bulgaria, where it facilitates the production of bleach kraft pulp. Subsequently, this pulp serves as a fundamental raw material for manufacturing diverse paper products, including but not limited to tissue paper, writing paper, and corrugated cardboard.

About This Project

  • Greenhouse gasses are reduced by using renewable biomass residues instead of fossil fuels to generate thermal energy for process operations at the Svilocell Pulp Mill.
  • Biomass residues are generated from the preliminary treatment of wood for the production of pulp. The biomass residues are combusted in a specially designed biomass boiler to generate thermal energy in the form of water steam that is necessary for the production of the pulp.
  • Carbon credits provide funding needed for the construction and operation of the specially designed biomass boiler.

Sustainability Development Goals

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also known as the Global Goals, are a set of 17 interconnected goals established by the United Nations in 2015 as a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure prosperity for all by 2030. The SDGs build upon the earlier Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) but are broader in scope, encompassing a wide range of economic, social, and environmental issues. They provide a comprehensive framework for addressing global challenges and achieving a more sustainable and equitable world. This project has the following sustainability development goals that are displayed.
